ACADEMIC POLICIES AND PROGRAMES

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

A candidate having at least 12-years schooling from relevant discipline can apply for undergraduate admission, if he/she has a minimum in three subject at A level in the scale of A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2 and E=1 any of the following conditions:

·         

S/he has a minimum GPA of 2.5 at both SSC and HSC levels.

·         

S/he has a GPA of less than 2.5 at SSC or HSC level, but the combined GPA at both levels is at least 6.0

·         

S/he is a ward of freedom fighter(s), and the combined GPA at SSC and HSC levels is at least 5.0

·         

S/he has a minimum GPA of 2.5 in four subjects at “O” level and 2.5 in two subjects at “A” level in the scale of A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2 and E=1

·         

S/he must have Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry in the Pre-University Level

·         

In case of Diploma students, all the above policies are applicable.

DUAL SEMESTER AT THIS UNIVERSITY

Each Academic Year is divided into dual semesters (Odd and Even)) of equal interval and all programs operate on this dual semester’s system. There will be total 22 weeks of active classes within the total 26 weeks in a dual semesters. In each semester, there will be 3 periods per week for a 3 credits course. The Odd semester spans from January to June, the Even from July to December. In each semester, the classes usually start in the second week of the beginning month and final exams in the third week of the last month of the dual semester. The academic calendar provides the deadlines for advising, registration, adding/dropping of courses, exam dates, holidays and other information.

LENGTH OF THE PROGRAM

Students are expected to complete the B.Sc. in EEE degree in four years consisting of 8 semesters including period for internship / dissertation / projects. Internship will be conducted for duration of 2 Weeks.  However, students who have completed prior credits either from the BTEB, EDEXCEL (e.g. HND, ND, and other diploma), etc. may be entitled to course exemptions or credit transfer provided that evidence of completion of degrees or courses with satisfactory grades is provided and is approved by the Academic Council. This will enable students to finish the degree in less than four years period. The minimum course load for HND, ND, and other diploma student is 22 credit hours in a semester and the maximum is 30.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

The degree for this program is awarded by the University upon the recommendation of the Faculty of Engineering. Recommendation depends on fulfillment of the following requirements:

  • Completion of the prescribed curriculum within 6 (six) years for undergraduate programs.
  • A minimum CGPA of 2.50 in all courses.
  • Payment of all University dues.
  • All properties of the University to be returned to the university authority

This is to mention that the University authority reserves the right to cancel any awarded degree, if any forgery or fraud in information or documentation provided is found later.

COURSE PATTERN AND CREDIT STRUCTURE

The program is covered by a set of theoretical courses along with a set of lab/sectional (practical) courses to support them. The rules for assignment of credit are as follows:

Credit Hours

Theoretical Courses: One contact hour of lecture per week per term is equivalent to one credit.

Sectional Course:  Credits are also assigned to project and thesis works taken by the student. The amount of credits assigned to such works varies from one discipline to another as given below:

Selecting Major And Minor

The credit requirement for any specific program of undergraduate level is set by the department concerned. A student is advised to choose his/her major usually after completing all core courses of Electrical and Electronic Engineering department and courses offered by Science and Humanities department at undergraduate program. After choosing the major, he/she can choose minor subjects from the respective prescribed list of subjects. Some more specific requirements may be assigned by the department. Students must consult the department for full details.

Credit Loads

A student must carry a minimum of 12 credits per semester for undergraduate program. A student may be allowed to take maximum 15 credits in two semesters (maximum) for undergraduate program if her/his CGPA is above 3.9. For this changing the student must take written permission from the Dean of the Faculty. The application for changing the status must be submitted to the Dean of the Faculty at least 2 weeks before the class commencement date of each dual semester.

COURSE DESIGNATION

Each course is designated by letter code identifying the department offering the course followed by a three-digit number having the following interpretation:

  • The first digit corresponds to the year/level in which the students normally undertake the course.
  • The second digit is reserved for departmental user. It usually identifies a specific area of study within the department.
  • The last digit is an odd number for theoretical courses and an even number for sessional courses.

Credit transfer

Only University level course/courses will be considered for credit transfer. The student willing to transfer his/her credits from other accredited institutions to this University must fulfill the general admission requirements for the specific program. The student must write an application for credit transfer to the Registrar of the University along with the Official Academic Transcripts issued by the previous institution and NOC (no objection certificate). Under no circumstances, can a student transfer more than 40% credits from other institutions to our University.

The student willing to transfer his/her credits from our University to other institutions in Bangladesh or abroad must write an application to the Registrar of this University along with the papers issued by the institution s/he is willing to study. The student may again come back and study at our University. She/he can also attend classes in dual semester but s/he has to register for courses as special or non-degree student.

WITHDRAWAL ON OWN ACCORD

Permanent Withdrawal

A Student who has already completed some courses and has not performed satisfactorily may apply for a permanent withdrawal.

Temporary Withdrawal

A student, if he/she applies, may be allowed temporarily from the program, subject to the approval of the Academic Council of the University, but he/she has to complete the whole program within 06 (six) academic years from the date of his/her registration.

Holds

The privileges of registration, advance registration, and receipt of transcripts are barred to students having outstanding obligations to the University. Obligations may take the form of unpaid dues, unreturned or damaged books and equipment, other charges for which a student may become legally indebted to the University, and failure to comply with the disciplinary sanctions or administrative actions. The departments or offices may place “holds” on registration, and transcripts for any student having an outstanding obligation.

GRADING SYSTEM

Total performance of a student in a given program is based on a scheme of continuous assessment. For theory courses, this continuous assessment is made through a set of class tests, evaluation, class participation, homework, assignment midterm examination and dual semester final examination. The assessment in sessional courses is made through observation of the student at work during the class, viva voce during lab hours, sessional report and quizzes. Each course has a certain number of credits, which describes its corresponding weights. A letter grade with a specified number of grade point is awarded to each course for which a student is measured both by the number of credits completed successfully and by the weighted average of the grade point earned. A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) is essential for satisfactory progress. A minimum number of earned credits also have to be acquired in order to qualify for the degree. Letter grades and corresponding grade points is awarded in accordance with the provisions shown below:

DISTRIBUTION OF MARKS

Theory Courses

Thirty percent (30%) of marks shall be allotted for continuous assessment i.e. class participation/observation, class attendance, class attendance, homework, assignment tests. The remaining 70% marks will be allotted to term final examination, which will be conducted centrally by the University. There will be internal and external examiners for each course in the term final examination. The distribution of marks for a given course is as follows :

Seasonal courses

The seasonal or part of seasonal courses will be conducted and assessed throughout the term. In addition, the concerned teacher shall arrange final quiz/examination.
